as it is our first holiday season together as a married couple it seems like the perfect time to start our own traditions as a family unit. i love the idea of looking back and being able to recall all those special memories of doing something every year and it definitely gives us something to look forward to as well. one tradition that i will always remember with my family is going to get our christmas tree. every year we would pack up the car and drive out to a tree farm to cut down our very own live christmas tree. it is a tradition that i plan to carry on with my own family and something that kyle and i have done for years as well. this year, because the family keeps growing and everyone’s schedule just keeps getting busier and busier, kyle and i went to get our tree with my sister and brother-in-law. it was slim pickings this year, we will have to investigate a new spot for next year, however, we managed to find a beautiful tree (the biggest one we’ve ever gotten thus far, three cheers for high ceilings in the schutz household!).
we have also already started a few new holiday traditions of our own this year. last week we hosted the first annual schutz holiday gathering. we had a few friends over to our home for dinner. everyone brought a dish to pass, kyle made old fashions from scratch, wine was drank, and everyone enjoyed the company of good friends and holiday cheer.
starting the first weekend following thanksgiving every sunday night kyle and i have cozied up on the couch and watched a christmas movie together. we plan to do this up until christmas. so far we’ve watched the muppets a christmas carol and two charlie brown christmas films. it’s a great way to unwind and relax together before the upcoming week. now, i have mastered the art of falling asleep during movies so it has become essential for us to make sure we start them at a decent hour (usually well before 8 pm).
